Game Recap

The Cougars were able to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat BNL 3-1.

Despite multiple opportunities to finish chances, the Cougars found themselves down 1-0 at halftime after BNL scored a goal with under 2 minutes to play in the half. However, the goal provided a much needed dose of reality to the Cougars who quickly stiffened up their game. Under a minute later, Cougar Sophomore Kayley Ryan found an opening and smashed a shot just off the left post, verifying that the Cougars wouldn’t go away quietly.

In the second half the girls collectively upped their game, playing with more pace and purpose. The Cougars began to find more and more openings and chance after chance. It wasn’t long until the Cougars tied the game at 1-1 when Junior Ping Showalter played a perfectly weighted through ball to Senior Sarah Thomas who took a nice touch towards goal before burying the ball in the back of the net with a well placed low, far post shot.

About 10 minutes later the ball was bouncing around the BNL box and struck a BNL players hand. The resulting PK was buried by Senior Kylee Henderson in the top right corner — giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead. It was a lead that would not be relinquished.

With under 10 minutes left to play Henderson slipped a nice ball through to Freshman Abby Cannon who calmly blasted the ball into the back of the net from about 12 yards out.

It was a nice win for the Cougars, but the celebration won’t last long as the Cougars get back to work as they take on Columbus East on Wednesday at Cougar Soccer Park. JV will kick off at 5:30 with Varsity to follow at around 7 pm.
