Bloomington South High School
The North Women’s Soccer team opened up it’s 2015 season with a Jamboree at Bloomington South; playing Bedford North Lawrence for a 20 minute period, followed by South for 20 minutes.
In the first period, the Cougars showed their attacking prowess by scoring within the first minute of play–Junior Ping Showalter burying a cross from Freshman Grace Saccone. The cougars went on to control the period; tacking on another goal from Freshman Abby Cannon on a smart pass by Sophomore Kayley Ryan.
In the second period against the Panthers, the Cougars struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Both teams struggled to possess the ball and create many dangerous goal scoring opporunities. The Cougars best chance was when Sophomore Kayley Ryan was able to slip in behind the South defense but her shot skied over the top of the goal. With under 5 left in the period South capitalized on a nice cross, taking a 1-0 lead. That goal would be the only goal of the affair, giving South the 1–0 win.
Of course, pre-season games are about more than wins. The games allowed the Cougars to work on some things from practice while at the same time giving a lot of young players some important game experience. The final 13 minutes of the South scrimmage the Cougars played a young line up consisting of 1 junior, 3 sophomores, and 7 freshman.
Despite the mixed results, the Cougars enter the season feeling confident yet humble; satisfied yet hungry. The Cougars open their regular season on Monday against Bedford North Lawrence looking to send a message.
